iHCPL #67 Exercise:
Question: Have you studied your genealogy in the past? If so, what advice do you have for those new to genealogical researching? If you have not begun researching, list at least three steps you would take when beginning your research?
Answer: Yes I have researched my family. Often I would look up a few things and I would be so intrigued by the links that I forgot to note the information I found first and the source. Then at other times I would look up different sides of my family at the same web source and then not write down the information, so I would confuse the results like the towns from Austria, Ukraine, Russia and Romania with different sides of the family.
On my birthday last year I took a leap of faith and looked up father’s family through the National Charity Leagues online newsletter contact information. The newsletter was a few years old but I sent an email to the contact from Indiana. Within two days I received an email from a relative who was contacted by the newsletter. This person forwarded my email to another member of the family that had been doing the family tree for years. Within four days I found out about more than 50 relatives living and dead.

I researched the oldest grave at Glennwood Cemetery in Houston TX.
It is from 1871, Captain Joseph Aiken who died in Galveston and was born in Geneva NY.
My cousin on my father’s side went to Queens NY Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and wrote done birth, death dates of the Liebross family. She contacted the Hebrew Free Grave Society and found the death date of my grandfather, November 9, 1959. I did not know his name until I talked with her a year ago. Max Liebross.
I have talked with my 85 yr old Aunt from California about my family history. I asked her about my grandmother (her mother-in-law), grandfather and their siblings. She gave me the first names and I found a record of my grandfather’s family in the 1920 census of New York.

I searched Heritage Quest for information on Pinelawn Cemetery on Long Island, NY. I chose to search the book section of the database, under place names. I found a book printed in 1928, called Long Island, The Sunrise Homeland. I looked at the index which had cities or unincorporated villages.
Pinelawn was listed. They described the cemetery and described another name it has gone by, Catholic Cemetery of the Resurrection.

28 iHcpl
Today we all worked together on the iHCPL lesson number 28.
GTD was an interesting Wikipedia article, a litte long.
I like the idea of DO it , Deligate it or Defer it.
Sometimes it takes longer to process or organize than to do things.
My BLA BLA list was easy to use and I like the being able to email it to my account.
The Zen Habits site was interesting but i was side tracked and looked at other items besides technology. the font size was too small ...
Organization is sometimes emphasized more than creativity... in a library i enjoy the opportunity to try new things and respond to daily challenges.... youknow we have them here in Katy.
My email recently deleted extraineous emails and trashed those i don't need anymore.

They created a comic strip to explain copyright. It is a cute idea and colorful. it looks more like a slide show with cartoon figures.

DRM (digital rights management) is a name for free software that must be downloaded to the computer you use to download music or books to an MP3 player.
Yes I use CDs to play music in my car. I do not own a MP3 player. I might buy 4 CDs a year. I used to buy children's music when my son was a toddler. It would help to be patient in traffic.
Musicians copyright rights will always be abused but it is good they have others to help them get credit, recognition.

iHcpl # 24 sound of music
I have visited Yahoo music, Rhapsody, iTunes and Napster. Yahoo is inexpensive because, it is free to listen, but if you want to download it is $6.00 month. Rhapsody's search field is the first thing you see and you don't have to hunt for the search field like other sites where the ads or their own products promotions are the predominant feature.
I looked at Pandora and i could only hear a sample of a Lyle Lovett song, to download you pay through iTUnes or Amazon. On iMeem.com you can hear the whole song rather than a sample. Free account but costs to download song through iTunes or Amazon.
Downloaded music to the library's MP3 player at home last night. It took a few steps, loading software on to computer and then trying to copy it to the player. I tried hearing the song from the MP3 but it would only show a diagram of the player and cable connection to the USB port.
Finally i disconneted the USB and it played the song.
I listened to NPR radio from my computer for a minute or two.

Thanks iStar for teaching me the GREAT advances with technology.
I might volunteer and read books for LibriVox.
I will encourage others to access feeds and podcasts. And the best thing is .... I can impress my friends and family. :)
